The workflow
- Shoot the day on both — camera for the keepers, iPhone for everything else.
- Import the camera's photos into Apple Photos as you already do.
- Open Photo Geotag. Camera shots appear grouped between your iPhone anchors, each with a proposed pin and the evidence behind it.
- Confirm on the map. Done — no cables, no companion app running all day, no battery-draining track recorder.
The clock problem — why naive matching fails
Camera clocks are wrong in two reliable ways. Travelling, the camera stays on home time — off by exactly one or more whole hours. And day to day the clock simply drifts, because nobody sets it to the second.
Matching timelines without correcting this doesn't fail loudly — it fails plausibly. A four-minute offset drags every inferred pin hundreds of metres down the street. The pins look right. They are all wrong.
Photo Geotag detects the offset by cross-matching when each device was shooting — the same events photographed by both produce a sharp alignment at the true offset, which snaps to whole hours when that's what it finds. Detection proposes; you dispose, on a slider that previews every pin moving live on the map. Confirm it once per camera, and every proposal uses the corrected time.
Which cameras?
Any camera whose photos end up in Apple Photos — RAW or JPEG. The app tells devices apart by how they name and size their files, so a two-camera day sorts itself out:

Each camera gets its own clock offset — the Fuji can be an hour out while the drone is on the second, and both still land where they should.
Scans and old libraries too
The same engine handles the other half of the problem: scanned prints, WhatsApp and AirDrop saves, shots where GPS never locked indoors. Rather keep the GPS in a file?
Export confirmed placements as a GPX track and feed it to Lightroom, exiftool or any geotagging tool you already use — your Photos library stays untouched.
